I loved my job for awhile, even through the bad bosses, I still loved my job. I eventually found wonderful people to work for too. However, as you might imagine being a vet is very stressful. Eventually the stress and long hours caught up to me and I burnt out. I never did give up drawing though - it had become my stress relief. I went back to school and studied graphic design. This is where I switched from traditional art to digital art. I just loved the way I could make colours pop and blend. I also started drawing more cartoon animals and found I loved making art for children.
The little cow was made for my niece's birthday card. She just loved cows at the time! This is a traditional drawing with ink and water coloured pencils. I sketched out the first ideas in my sketch book then drew the final design straight onto the card for her.
This dachshund was a sketch idea for a book gig that I didn’t go ahead in the end but I still like some of my earlier character ideas.
Tractors are my nephews favourite thing. This tractor drawing is one of my early cards for him. When I first started digital art my art style was like this - ink and air brushing. I am not such a fan of this style now but its still fun. My nephew certainly liked it at the time and probably still does as he still loves tractors! If you check out my shop you will see some of this style still there. It seems to be popular still so I have it there for now. Perhaps one day I will redo some of these drawings to fit my current style.
I am keen to try and go back to some of the traditional looking art but this time with oil brushes. Its also harder for my pet rabbit to chew my art supplies....but she did manage to redecorate my ipad case!
