My Wild Back Garden

My backyard in May was warm and abuzz with insect activity. The sun was shining on the long grass and weeds. Inspiration hit and I ran out to take photos! I imagined a miniature world at ground level full of activity. I saw ladybirds and bees. Dandelion and daisy flowers had sprung up all around. I snapped away and soaked in the sun.

I ended up creating 2 patterns and one illustration. For the illustration I wanted to create that miniature world I had imagined. I wanted it to be bright and fun. I researched childhood games and found the parachute game. Perfect! The children became the ladybirds and the parachute the petal.

The first pattern features ladybirds too but this time with some dandelion flowers added as well. The extra bit of yellow really makes it pop! I think it would look great as stationary but also fabric.

In the last pattern, I wanted to capture the warmth and the activity of the bees. The colour palette is mostly analogous with yellows, oranges and greens. The white clover flowers add to the softer creamy warm vibe - like honey. I think this would make a great fabric but you could use it for other things too.

Its been so wet this winter and its nice to go back to these memories of warmth and activity. Bring on spring!
