How did Halloween start? There a a few theories but the most popular suggests if started as an Celtic festival of Samhain. It was believed that the souls of the dead would come back to their houses on this day. People lit bonfires and dressed up to ward off ghosts. It was later adopted by the Pope as a time to honor all saints.
This illustration started out as a card idea but then evolved into a study. I have always had a bit of difficulty with night drawings so this illustration was the perfect practice. I was quite pleased with my progress.
I am also working on a proper Halloween collection. I have all the initial sketches done now which is great. I had a bunch of ideas so I can definitely come back to this one at the later date. For this collection though I am going to try a new art program - Rebelle 5 pro. They are having a crazy sale so I couldn't resist! I especially love how the brushes blend so naturally. Its so fun to use! I am also keen to try out the nano pixel export. Apparently you can resize up to 16 times without losing quality (depending on the power of your computer). I have already had a go with the painting side of things and drawn a lemur. He turned out pretty cool. Keep an eye out for future blogs to see some of my collection.
