Art Classes Update | Introduction to Animal Character Design Part One and Two

Introduction to animal character design went well. I had a bunch of really great people turn up. In the first class a mother and daughter learnt how to break down the shapes of a dog. They went home really happy and were going to try it out on their own dog. The teen girls showed up to both sessions and were already great at drawing. In the first class I helped them apply textures to their art and think about how to move their characters in space. One drew dragons and the other a pigeon. In the second class the dragons were drawn cute then villainous. The villan was attacking a smaller dragon in her scene. A giant hand then comes to take the evil dragon away. By the way she is one of those people who is good at drawing hands - amazing! She wants to learn animation. She is certainly on the right track. The other teen practiced drawing a wolf detective character. She really got the clothing down well. She normally doesn’t draw villans but she did a great job on this one. The boy who came was only 10 but he made a huge improvement. He struggled a bit with light and shade in the first class but wow his second class was amazing. He drew various animals as villians, heroes, thugs and cute characters. I was super impressed with his understanding. I hope he keeps this up. He's going to be great!

I recommended a few you tubers and artists to them at the end. I think Mitch Leewe would be great one for them all especially the boy. He breaks everything down into easier steps. Marco Bucci is wonderful for colour in particular and Aaron Blaise is good too.

Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures so I will show you something I made for the class. This is a line up of bears I drew to show the different shapes that make up particular characters - heroes, cute characters, stocky/dependable and villans. If I do another program I will be sure to ask my students about pictures.
