Classes
I have taken many online classes but something I wish I had earlier on was some classes in person. There's nothing quite like in person tuition as you just progress faster. The other thing I noticed is that the in person classes I could find were for traditional artists and while some of these skills definitely overlap, digital art is quite different in many ways. So this is how my idea of digital art classes began. I first offered some free workshops at my local library in animal character design. These were well received and it was so fun for me to see how people progressed. I was particularly impressed with one child who just seemed to really rise to the challenge and he made some amazing stuff!
I now offer digital art classes to beginners in small groups or privately by arrangement. The classes are in 6 week blocks. The first class is obligation free so if it doesn't suit you then just pay for the one class. I am Rolleston based so my classes will be held at my home or at one of my local libraries (Te Ara Atea in Rolleston or Lincoln library). My classes are an 1 hour long for both children, teens and adults. I teach adults, teens and children separately as each group learns differently. Children must be at least 8 years old. Teens 13 years and older. Adults are 18 years and older.
Prices
Group Classes 6 week block (minimum of 3 and max of 6 people): $120 per person for 6 weeks ($20 per person per class). To go ahead with group classes there needs to be at least 3 people so round up your friends or go on my waitlist until there are more people. I like to keep my classes small (no more than 6 people) so I have time to help everyone.

Private Classes 6 weeks block: $360 for 6 weeks ($60 per class)

What equipment do you need?
Any standalone tablet that comes with a stylus you can draw with. Or if you want to bring a laptop and plug in your tablet you can also do this. When you are just learning often a screen tablet is best as its more intuitive. However, I started out on just a non screen one and managed to get the hang of it. I now have both and use them for different things. For a good all rounder you can’t go wrong with an iPad. The Samsung tablets are pretty good too but they don’t come with all the drawings apps that the iPad has. But they are getting better! If you are not sure where to start then check out you tube for reviews. Brad Colbow is really good.

What software do you need?
These days most digital software is pretty reasonable and your choice will depend on what kind of art you want to make.
My favourites on my iPad are procreate and art studio pro. On my computer I use clip studio paint, Krita (free) and Rebelle 7 pro the most often. I have many others though so I am happy to give you my opinion on whatever software you have. The important thing is to just get started!
